08/06/17 – New Architects Regulation under the Architects Act 2003 (NSW) Recently released for public comment

Those Architects registered to practice in New South Wales should be aware that the NSW Government Department of Finance Services and Innovation recently released a draft Architects Regulation 2017 for public consultation.

The 2017 Regulation is to replace the current Architects Regulation 2012 when it automatically repeals on 1 September 2017. A Regulatory Impact Statement has been prepared to accompany the draft Regulation, which includes a summary of the proposed changes.

Included amongst the proposed changes are:

  • amendments to the NSW Architects Code of Professional Conduct in relation to the matters to be addressed in an agreement with a client for the provision of services;
  • removing the list of Universities in NSW where qualifications for registration as an Architect can be obtained and replacing this with recognised universities in NSW that offer an accredited architectural course; and
  • improving public information about the registration status of Architects in NSW.

You can find out more and download a copy of the draft Regulation here: https://www.nsw.gov.au/improving-nsw/have-your-say/draft-architects-regulation-2017/

Submissions on the draft Regulation close on Friday 30 June 2017.
